siimee's material
-Weaving and dyeing, handicrafts-

The fabrics handled by siimee are:
We use natural materials, mainly cotton.

The feel, the touch, the atmosphere.
We value the background of how the fabric is made,
People who touch the fabric feel comfortable
Fabrics that you can wear every day
It is woven in a village in Laos.

From seeds to cloth, everything is done by hand in the village.

The fabrics used by siimee are hand-spun and hand-woven using traditional Laotian methods.

Cotton grown in the village is carefully hand-spun into thread and then dyed with plants.
This is then hand woven on a loom to create cloth.

1. Pick the cotton.

2. Spin it into thread.

3. Dyeing with flowers and plants.
This is the indigo dyeing process.

4. Hand weaving on a loom.
In Laos, there are traditional looms such as high-rise looms and waist-length looms.
There are many different types of weaving techniques that use them.

The fabric produced by this traditional handiwork combines the uneven, slightly thick texture unique to hand-spun yarn with a softness that can only be achieved by hand weaving, resulting in a very gentle fabric.

Colors that blend into your life

The colors of siimee's fabrics are centered around natural cotton colors such as off-white and brown, as well as indigo dyeing, so that they can be easily used in everyday life in Japan.

Therefore, although off-white and brown cotton, as well as indigo dye, will transfer color slightly, the color will hardly fade at all, so you can enjoy using it for a long time.

Traditional patterns in new form

Those familiar with Laotian weaving might look at siimee's products and think that they are "not typical Laotian" because they use plain fabrics or simple patterns.

Laos has a number of beautiful traditional weaving techniques, including a technique called sew-weaving. When you learn the meaning behind these patterns, you can be struck by the beauty of the Laotian culture of life in harmony with nature, animals, and imaginary creatures.

On the other hand, it is difficult to incorporate these things into everyday life in Japan. I think that the appeal of things made in a country really stands out when worn in that country.

We would like to incorporate these Laotian weaving patterns and techniques into new forms together with Laotian designers.

The challenge has just begun.
We hope you will keep an eye on this product until it becomes a product.

siimee's fabrics are made from luxurious hand-spun and hand-woven fabrics, which are rarely seen in Japan anymore.
What form should I take this beautiful material, fabric, and present it in to bring out its charm? I think that is my mission as a designer.
I hope you will enjoy its charm to the fullest.
